Donnell Jewellers / Donnell Valuation Services
Donnell Jewellers and Donnell Valuation Services are located in Christchurch, New Zealand. Originally situation in the central city, in High Street, the manufacturing/retail jewellery store has been an important part of residents and visitors memorable moments for over 40 years.
The company was founded by Richard Donnell in 1975. Together with his wife, daughters and staff, he operated it from its Triangle Chambers premises right up until 22 February 2011, when the Christchurch 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the city. This had followed the Canterbury 7.1 magnitude earthquake on 4 September 2010, which co-incidentally was Donnell Jewellers' 40th Birthday.
Although the impact of the February 2011 earthquake presented quite a challenge for Richard and his family, they have continued operating the manufacturing and valuing aspects of the business by appointment.

Founder, Richard Donnell, is a manufacturing jeweller and jewellery valuer. He began his career in 1952 and has designed and custom handmade thousands of rings and jewellery items in the past 60 years. He prides himself on working to a high standard. He enjoys working to traditional methods and restoring older pieces to their original condition.
Richard is a member of the GIA Alumni Association, Gemological Associate of New Zealand (GANZ), Jewellers and Watch Makers of New Zealand (JWNZ) and Jewellery Valuers Society of New Zealand Inc. (JVS).

Daughter, Deb Donnell, has worked part time in the family business since high school and full time since 2005. Diamonds and coloured gemstones have always fascinated her. After the Christchurch Earthquake, she travelled to Montreal, Canada in 2011 to complete her GIA Diamonds Diploma and is continuing her studies towards a GIA Gemologist Diploma.
With over 30 years in the jewellery industry, she continues working part-time with her father, as a jewellery valuer for Donnell Valuation Services. She is a member of the GIA Alumni Association, Gemological Associate of New Zealand (GANZ).
As well as her love for diamonds, Deb has a passion for writing, and has combined the two into a her company, Writing Diamonds Ltd, which provides training to help small businesses transform writing rocks into published diamonds. She also publishes books documenting the Christchurch Earthquake and rebuild through her company, Keswin Publishing Ltd.
